Arsenal are reportedly eyeing a January move for Argentine international Ever Banega, who has been identified as a replacement for Aaron Ramsey.
According to a report by TransferMarketWeb, Arsenal have identified Ever Banega as a priority target for the January transfer window. The Gunners are viewing the Argentine star as a possible replacement for Aaron Ramsey, who looks set to depart from the Emirates, either in the winter or next summer.
Banega has played some of his best football with current Arsenal manager Unai Emery in charge, having played his first two campaigns with Sevilla under the Basque coach, winning the Europa League in 2015 and 2016. But, while he has been a pivotal figure for Los Nervionenses, the Argentine midfielder faces an uncertain future at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium.
Emery is now eyeing a reunion with his former charge at Arsenal, having also attempted to sign him in the summer transfer window. But, with a space possibly opening up in his midfield unit in January, the need to make a reinforcement has accentuated.
Aaron Ramsey looks set to end his decade long association with Arsenal, either in January or next summer, as talks over a new contract have broken down. With his current deal set to run out at the end of the season, the Gunners could either choose to recoup some amount for him in the winter, or risk letting him go for free next summer.
While the situation pertaining to Ramsey is hardly an ideal one, the North Londoners must quickly turn their attention towards replacing him. And, Arsenal seem to be doing just that, with Banega emerging as their top target for the January transfer window.
The Argentine star is indeed a viable target for Arsenal to boost creativity in midfield in the short-term and mitigate the impending departure of Ramsey. Banega’s presence in the squad could also prove to be beneficial for Granit Xhaka, who will get to learn a great deal from the experienced midfielder.
Tying Aaron Ramsey to a new deal might be a lost cause for Arsenal. But, in Ever Banega, the Gunners will have a solid replacement, with the Argentine previously enjoying a lot of success with Unai Emery. It now remains to be seen if the Premier League heavyweights are able to swoop the player away from Sevilla in January, or if they are forced to set their sights elsewhere.
