Fernando Sanz, the General Manager of La Liga in the Middle East and North Africa, has said that Real Madrid and Barcelona should make a move for Mohamed Salah.
In an interview with Goal, former Real Madrid defender Fernando Sanz has created quite a stir. Speaking during the opening of a La Liga academy in Egypt, the General Manager of La Liga in the Middle East and North Africa has opined that Barcelona and Real Madrid should pursue Premier League superstar Mohamed Salah.
Mohamed Salah has set the Premier League alight since joining Liverpool from AS Roma in the summer of 2017. The standout player from English football last season, the Egyptian superstar won the Golden Boot while playing a starring role in the UEFA Champions League as Liverpool reached the final.
So far this season, Salah doesn’t quite seem to have his scoring boots on, but he has still looked every bit dangerous in the final third. However, Liverpool might have to brace themselves for a bid from a couple of European powerhouses, with Barcelona and Real Madrid being linked with him.
Those rumours are now set to be boosted, with the General Manager of La Liga in the Middle East and North Africa, Fernando Sanz iterating that Barcelona and Real Madrid should pursue a move for the Premier League superstar.
“Salah is a very good player. I want and I hope to see him in Liga because the best players in the world have to play here. He can join the project of Barcelona and Real Madrid.”
At Barcelona, it not completely clear where how Salah would slot into the first-team setup, with the La Liga champions being well stocked in the wide areas for now. But, the Egyptian winger has the ability to play across the front three, which perhaps makes him a viable target.
Real Madrid, on the other hand, could have a player who could go a long way in filling up the boots of Cristiano Ronaldo. The player’s goalscoring exploits could be a perfect compliment to the creative abilities of Toni Kroos, Isco and Luka Modric, making him a viable target.
But, if Barcelona and Real Madrid do decide to make a move for Salah, they will like have to shell an astronomical figure, considering he still has close to five years left on his contract following his renewal with Premier League heavyweights Liverpool this past summer.
For now, the 26-year-old remains committed to the Reds. But, it will be interesting to see which way he heads off to if and when his loyalty is put to test by Barcelona or Real Madrid.
