Juventus are reportedly eyeing a January move for Costa Rican goalkeeper Keylor Navas, who faces an uncertain future at Real Madrid.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Don Balon, Keylor Navas could be given a way out of his growing frustrations at Real Madrid in the January transfer window. Juventus are interested in signing the 31-year-old, who could be open to a move away from the Bernabeu in the winter.
Navas has gone through a peculiar spell at Real Madrid, since joining from Levante in the summer of 2014. After initially disposing Iker Casillas in his maiden campaign at the Bernabeu, the Costa Rica custodian has constantly had to justify his status as the Real Madrid no. 1.
And, his job got that bit harder this past summer, as Los Blancos signed Thibaut Courtois from Chelsea. Julen Lopetegui has, so far, insisted that there is no specific first-choice goalkeeper in his squad. But, with Courtois starting the last two league games for Real Madrid, Navas’s frustrations are growing.
The report suggests that the former Levante superstar is not ready to play second fiddle in the battle to be the Real Madrid no. 1, and could be open to a move away from the Bernabeu if he continues to remain deputy to Courtois. And, Juventus could offer him an exit route for Navas.
The interest from Juventus though, comes as a bit of a surprise, with the Bianconeri buying Mattia Perin in the summer transfer window. The 25-year-old is not even first-choice at the Allianz Stadium, with Wojciech Szczesny emphatically taking over the role since Gianluigi Buffon’s departure.
It’s not quite clear as to where the Real Madrid superstar will fit in if he joins Juventus in the January transfer window. Should Navas end up switching allegiances, Perin’s position will also be put in heavy doubt.
Navas though, will be pushing for a move if he becomes a constant on the Real Madrid bench in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, Florentino Perez will be willing to listen to offers if the 31-year-old submits a transfer request.
The uncertainties at Real Madrid could soon come to an end for Keylor Navas, although he would prefer reclaiming his place as the first-choice goalkeeper. It remains to be seen if Juventus end up swooping another Real Madrid superstar away when the transfer window reopens in a little over three months.
