Manchester United have reportedly set their sights on Milan Skriniar, who faces an uncertain future with Serie A giants Inter Milan

According to a report by The Sun, who have cited Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, Manchester United are keen on signing Milan Skriniar. The Slovakian international faces an uncertain future with Serie A heavyweights Inter Milan, who are eager to tie him down to a new deal.

Skriniar has created a solid reputation for himself since moving to Italy from his homeland in 2016. 18 months into his first move to Serie A, the player is already regarded as one of the best centre-backs in the Italian top-flight, and it is at Inter Milan where his talents have truly come to the fore.

While he has only missed one league game for the Nerazzurri, the arrival of Stefan De Vrij could see him share game time over the course of the season. But, Manchester United are willing to make him a first-choice centre-back, and are ready to cash in on the current situation he finds himself in.

The Premier League heavyweights were in the market for a centre-back this past summer, but to no avail as Jose Mourinho couldn’t add to his squad. However, the frailties at the back have remained, which has only reinforced the Manchester United manager’s calls for bolstering the heart of defence.

While Manchester United are well stocked in options at the back, the likes of Victor Lindelof, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Marcos Rojo have been failing to look the part. As a result, Skriniar appears to be a viable target for the Red Devils, even though he will not be the experienced leader Mourinho has been asking for.

Inter Milan though, are eager to tie him down to a new long-term contract in order to ward off Manchester United, despite the fact that the 23-year-old still has a little under four years left on his current deal.

It was believed for a long time that Manchester United had lost the race to sign Skriniar. But, the Serie A giants have hit a snag in their bid to tie the Slovakian international down to a new deal, with the player demanding around €3 million.

Inter Milan, on the other hand, are only willing to offer around €2.5 million in the new deal. Manchester United though, are ready to lodge a €65 million bid to secure his services, and the Serie A outfit could face an uphill task keeping hold of Skriniar, considering the Red Devils will offer a pretty penny to him as well.

With contract talks hitting a roadblock, Manchester United might fancy their chances of snapping Milan Skriniar up. It now remains to be seen if the Slovakian defender’s stint in the Serie A comes to an end soon, or if Inter end up tying him up to a new deal instead.
