Liverpool are interested in PSG superstar Adrien Rabiot and have reportedly established contact with the Barcelona target’s agent and camp.
According to ESPN and their sources, Liverpool are keen on landing Adrien Rabiot. The prospect of signing the Frenchman on a free transfer has seen Liverpool contact his agent and mother over the possibility of bringing him to Anfield. Rabiot is also a primary target for Barcelona.
Adrien Rabiot has already done so much and yet he is still a blossoming prospect at 23. The midfielder came through the PSG academy setup and broke into the first-team in the 2012-13 campaign. Following a six-month loan spell at Toulouse, the player became a permanent fixture within the first-team setup, starting from the 2013-14 season.
Till date, Rabiot has amassed 212 senior appearances for PSG, becoming a full-fledged international for France in the process as well. The 23-year-old has 15 trophies during his time with PSG – four of them being league titles. Rabiot has always been subject to speculation linking him to the likes of Barcelona and other top European clubs.
The Catalans have been looking to recruit Rabiot for a while now. Barcelona seemed to be plotting a move to land him in the recently concluded transfer window. The Frenchman added to the already rife speculation by rejecting PSG’s attempts to tie him down to a new contract.
But, the window ended, with Rabiot still on the books of PSG. His stay though, is almost guaranteed to end in the summer of 2019, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season. Liverpool are looking to take advantage of the opportunity.
The Reds are aware that Adrien Rabiot will be wanted man in the transfer market, especially if he enters January without an extension. Liverpool signed Naby Keita and Fabinho to strengthen the midfield. But, the prospect of getting a midfielder as good as Rabiot without spending any transfer fee on him has seen Liverpool open dialogue with the player’s agent and mother.
Rabiot has earlier expressed an interest in plying his trade in the Premier League and could be tempted to move to Liverpool, considering the Reds’ current upsurge in the European footballing scene.
It will be interesting to see where Rabiot and his entourage decide to go. At the moment, Barcelona might be the best bet. But, Liverpool seem intent on making it a tough fight, if nothing more, for the Spanish giants.
