Mauricio Pochettino has called his Manchester United counterpart Jose Mourinho an inspirational manager whose ways he tries to copy as well

As reported by The Sun, Mauricio Pochettino has hailed Jose Mourinho, calling him an inspiration for young, up and coming coaches. The Totttenham Hotspur boss even went on to state that he tries to copy his Manchester United counterpart, as far as his ways and methods are concerned.

Pochettino has seen his stock skyrocket since taking charge of Tottenham in the summer of 2014. Four years since joining the North Londoners, and the Argentine has gone on to establish Spurs as a genuine Champions League side as well as Premier League title contenders.

His work with Tottenham has resulted in speculation linking several prominent names in European football with him. But, Pochettino has stayed loyal to Spurs, even putting pen to paper on a five-year deal with them this summer.

For many though, the 46-year-old is the ideal manager to take over at Manchester United whenever Jose Mourinho departs from Old Trafford. But, Pochettino has revealed that the Manchester United boss is someone he looks up to, and who is an inspiration to young coaches.

The Tottenham manager also revealed that he tries to copy his Manchester United counterpart, as he said, “Mourinho, I try to copy a lot of things. For every single manager younger than him, he was the inspirational manager. He is an unbelievable manager but, of course, the circumstances that happen with myself and happen with different managers is always going to be up and down.”

On the face of it, it looks like Pochettino and Mourinho are two managers who couldn’t be more different, both in their style of play on the pitch and their ways off it. But, the Argentine certainly seems to look up to the Manchester United manager, and copy some of his methods.

For now though, Pochettinho would be focusing on getting one up over the inspiration that is Mourinho, when Tottenham visit Old Trafford to take on Manchester United on Monday. One of Mourinho’s ideals that Pochettino would love to perfect is the defensive solidity of his side, if Spurs are to continue their perfect start to the season and heap more misery on Mourinho.
