PSG are plotting a £100 million bid for Christian Eriksen, with the Tottenham star also a target for Real Madrid.
Tottenham had come under the spotlight by the end of the English transfer window, being on the receiving end of much criticism following their decision to sign no players during that time. Although they did not let go of a valuable player, Express now reports that PSG are readying a £100 million bid for the playmaker, Christian Eriksen.
Despite all the criticism, some quarters have actually praised Tottenham’s resilience in keeping hold of their numerous stars, including the likes of Harry Kane, Davison Sanchez and Christian Eriksen from the big boys of English and European football. However, with PSG’s interest, the last few days of the transfer window is set to be exciting.
The exciting part, however, is to see how Spurs are able to keep hold of their stars, especially Eriksen. There’s not much interest expected in their other stars as many of them signed new or extended deals with Spurs in the summer, but Eriksen did not. While talks are reportedly ongoing, big clubs have taken note of this situation.
PSG are reportedly in the market for a marquee signing to add to Thomas Tuchel’s squad and have identified Eriksen as a key player that could improve their side. To fund the move, they are ready to sell players like Julian Draxler and Angel Di Maria.
The French club came under the spotlight of the FFP after their deals for Neymar and Kylian Mbappe last season. Despite being initially cleared of those problems, they are facing fresh screening of these deals and their financial situation. However, selling their fringe stars could help fund them a move for Eriksen.
Eriksen’s reluctance to sign a new deal has not only interested PSG but Real Madrid as well, who were keen on the playmaker and are eyeing the star as a possible replacement for Luka Modric, who might leave the European Champions before the transfer window closes, with Inter the likely destination.
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino very well knows what it could mean to lose his star player who scored 14 goals and assisted 10 last season. The biggest concern would be to replace him, as Tottenham cannot find a replacement for the Dane until at least January.
PSG signing Eriksen will represent their ambition, especially to win the Champions League in the coming season. On the other hand, Spurs losing one of the most influential stars would be a significant loss for them especially in the Premier League and for their European adventures and it could lead to distant stars leaving next season.
