Manchester United legend Paul Ince has advised Jose Mourinho to sell Paul Pogba, amid interest from Barcelona over a possible late move this summer
As reported by The Sun, Paul Ince has a word of advice for his former club, Manchester United. The former United and Liverpool star has told Jose Mourinho to sell Paul Pogba, who is being targeted over a possible summer move by Barcelona, following his comments after the 2-1 win over Leicester City last week.
Pogba’s future has been the subject of intense speculation this summer. The player’s sour relationship with Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has only stoked the fire. And, it has been widely reported that Barcelona have been scouring the possibility of signing him this summer, with Real Madrid keeping tabs as well.
There have been conflicting reports over whether a bid has been tabled to Manchester United. But, with Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu recently choosing to be coy over the club’s pursuit of Pogba, it seems clear that the Blaugrana do hold an interest in him, although it is slightly surprising.
Midfield seems to be one department where Ernesto Valverde is not short of any firepower, be it on the creative front or defensively. The arrivals of Arturo Vidal and Arthur has given the Barcelona boss a well stocked midfield unit, and the addition of Pogba could complicate matters.
Nevertheless, it looks Barcelona could test the resolve of Manchester United, who are unwilling to sell. But, Paul Ince has opined that Mourinho should instead sanction Pogba’s sale, claiming that no player is bigger than the club.
“He’s been a nightmare. As a player, irrespective of whether you’re happy or unhappy, there are ways to conduct yourself. He captained United in their opening game of the season against Leicester, played brilliantly, and then came out with those quotes afterwards. I really can’t understand why he’d do that other than to get attention and set tongues wagging.”
“If he’s so desperate to instigate a move away from Old Trafford, then he should just go. There is no player bigger than a club – especially not Manchester United. United can’t go on like this for the rest of the season. It’s not all about him. It’s about the full team and the fans.”
Despite Ince suggesting Manchester United to part ways with Pogba, it could be a poor decision to sell, considering the transfer window has closed in England. The Red Devils thus, have no time to procure a replacement, should Barcelona swoop him away.
Pogba’s recent comments have definitely complicated matters at Old Trafford, contradicting reports that suggested that he is happy at Manchester United. Whether he starts against Brighton this weekend will give a good indication as to the repercussions of his comments, which could also see Barcelona spring into action for a possible move.
There are still two weeks left for Spanish clubs to complete their transfer business, which will keep Manchester United fans nervous over Pogba’s future. It now remains to be seen if the Red Devils pay heed to Ince’s words and sell their prized asset to Barcelona, or choose to keep hold of him instead.
