FC Porto star Alex Telles is one of the names that has emerged as an option to reinforce the Real Madrid squad and replace Theo Hernandez.
Spanish publication Don Balon have come up with some names that have emerged as potential alternatives for Theo Hernandez. One of the names that have propped up is FC Porto star Alex Telles, with Real Madrid said to be plotting a move for the left-back.
Theo Hernandez has moved to Real Sociedad on a season-long loan. The move leaves Real Madrid with just Marcelo for the left side of the defence. The club is now looking to bring in a player to not just be an able deputy to their first-choice but also a competitor for the spot.
Alex Telles is a name that has been doing the rounds at Real Madrid since the end of the 2017-18 campaign. The FC Porto star rose within the first-team setup at Estadio do Dragao after the departure of Alex Sandro. The Brazilian has not only managed to compensate for his compatriot’s transfer but also forged a great name for himself in European football.
The player was on the radar of a number of clubs. But, the Premier League transfer window has ended, with none of the clubs choosing to pursue the Brazilian. The player though, is now a target for Real Madrid, with Florentino Perez looking to sign a deputy for Marcelo for the left flank.
Theo Hernandez was brought in last summer. But, the former Atletico Madrid star failed to establish himself at the Bernabeu and has seen himself being sent on a season-long loan to Real Sociedad. While he will be coming back after a season, Florentino Perez is looking to add a left-back for the long haul.
Another reason behind Perez’s pursuit of a left-back is the fact that there have been murmurs of Cristiano Ronaldo wanting his friend Marcelo at Juventus. Should this happen, now or in the near future, Perez wants to be prepared for the event, as was not the case when Ronaldo departed.
Alex Telles managed to replace Alex Sandro just fine at FC Porto and Florentino Perez feels he could do a similarly eventful job of replacing Marcelo at Real Madrid, should it come to that. It will be interesting to see if Real Madrid do end up moving for the Brazilian.
