Anthony Martial has a new suitor in his pursuit, with AC Milan reportedly interested in signing the Manchester United star this summer.
According to a report by TransferMarketWeb, Anthony Martial is the subject of interest from AC Milan. The Frenchman has been heavily linked with a move away from Manchester United this summer, with the likes of Chelsea, Tottenham and PSG previously linked with him quite heavily.
Martial has endured quite the travail at Manchester United under the tutelage of Jose Mourinho, having struggled to secure a role as a regular over the last two seasons. Tensions boiled over when he was omitted from the French National Squad for the World Cup, with his agent subsequently announcing the player’s desire to depart from Old Trafford.
Things then reached a head last month when Martial left the Manchester United pre-season camp in USA to attend the birth of his child, albeit without informing Mourinho on time. Since then, it has been widely believed that the Premier League heavyweights are finally open to offloading the Frenchman, with no cordial arrangement possible.
The likes of Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Tottenham and PSG were all linked at different stages over the last one month. But, for one reason or another, a deal couldn’t be completed, meaning Martial remains a Manchester United player, with the Blues and Spurs losing the chance to sign him.
While the transfer window remains open for Bayern Munich and PSG, it seems unlikely that either club will be willing to pay Manchester United’s reportedly steep asking price. However, AC Milan are now scouring the possibility of signing him.
The Rossoneri are desperate to return to their pomp after years of obscurity in Italian football. The arrivals of Gonzalo Higuain and Mattia Caldara seem to be steps in the right direction. But, more still needs to be done if Milan are to become one of the contenders for the Serie A title.
Martial is exactly the kind of player who could be a long-term solution on the left side of attack, with the player having the potential to complement Higuain quite well. Borussia Dortmund also seem interested in signing the wantaway Manchester United star, who could be a possible solution as a striker.
But, the big hurdle for both Milan and Dortmund will likely be the player’s valuation, with Manchester United reportedly seeking as much as €80 million for Martial. Milan though, will look to turn his head and negotiate an agreeable figure. Otherwise, the cash strapped Italians might find it difficult to secure the services of the 22-year-old.
For now, it looks like Milan are looking to make all the right moves in the final weeks of the transfer window. It remains to be seen if Martial can be one of their late signings, or if he ends up staying at Manchester United instead.
