Dimitar Berbatov has predicted former club Manchester United to win the Premier League title, with champions Manchester City finishing third.
As reported by The Sun, Dimitar Berbatov has made his early predictions for the race to win the Premier League title. The former Manchester United and Tottenham superstar has tipped the Red Devils to reclaim their place atop English football’s summit, predicting current champions Manchester City to finish third.
Less than a week remains for the Premier League football to return after a three-month break for the 2018-19 season. The summer transfer window before it has seen clubs battle hard to fortify their squads, and preparations are in full swing for the start of the races to win the title and avoid relegation.
As always, pundits, former and current players alike are making their predictions for the same. And, former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov has had his say as well, and there are some very interesting predictions made by the Bulgarian superstar.
“The top four will be the same as last season but in this order – Manchester United, Spurs, Manchester City, and Liverpool. I was going to say Chelsea because of the “new manager” effect, the team start to perform better especially the first couple of matches, but I think Liverpool will finish above them because they’ve bought more talented players, so I’ll stick to the same four as last year.”
The prediction is certainly a bold one, considering Manchester City were already miles ahead of their competition last season, finishing ahead of nearest rivals Manchester United by 19 points. Pep Guardiola & co. had also broken the 100-point barrier, meaning the gap between them and their rivals is quite a big one to bridge.
As far as Manchester United are concerned, Jose Mourinho’s men aren’t the odds on favourites to win the title, with the manager himself unhappy with the position of his squad. While reinforcements are expected soon, there are some obvious holes that Mourinho is looking to plug.
Meanwhile, Liverpool fans would surely be expecting to finish higher than fourth after the summer they have enjoyed with the arrivals of Alisson, Fabinho, Naby Keita and Xherdan Shaqiri. Tottenham, Chelsea and Arsenal can not be ruled out easily either, with the ‘Big Six’ only growing stronger.
One thing appears to be certain. The 2018-19 Premier League season is primed to be a highly exciting one from top to bottom. It will be interesting to see if Manchester United return to the top, just as Berbatov predicted, or if some other side wins the Premier League title.
