Yerry Mina will likely be moving to the Premier League, with Barcelona reportedly set to accept a £27 million bid from Everton for the Manchester United target.
Goal understands that Everton have lodged a £27 million bid to Barcelona for Yerry Mina. The Colombian international has been attracting interest from Manchester United as well. Barcelona are considering the acceptance of Everton’s offer, with the player poised to move.
Yerry Mina was already regarded as an up-and-coming defender when Barcelona snapped him up from Palmeiras. But, it was his showing in Russia that has propelled him into the eyes of the European clubs, especially the ones in England. The defender partnered Tottenham man Davinson Sanchez at the back and dominated the proceedings.
What really came to the fore was Mina’s ability to be a threat in attack as well, with the player recording 3 goals in as many outings at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Everton, Wolves and a few other clubs were linked to Mina. But, of late, Manchester United had entered the race for the 23-year-old.
Manchester United are in the market for a centre-back, if reports are to be believed. Marcos Rojo is set to be axed while the likes of Phil Jones and Chris Smalling are not seen as players that are able to perform day-in day-out. The Red Devils though, seem fixated on landing Leicester City star Harry Maguire.
Reports claimed that Manchester United will be moving for Yerry Mina if they fail to land Harry Maguire. But, it seems Everton have moved in quick in order to prevent a potential hijack of their pursuit.
The Toffees are trying to revamp their squad after the arrival of Marco Silva. The likes of Phil Jagielka and Ashley Williams are on the wrong side of 30 and need an able replacement. Michael Keane is seen as one half of a new central defensive pairing.
But, the likes of Mason Holgate, Matthew Pennington and Tyias Browning are seen as backup options, thus accentuating the need for a new quality centre-back.
Yerry Mina seems to be in form and eager to prove himself in Europe, which could be a bonus for Everton. The Toffees have submitted a £27 million bid for the 23-year-old and if reports are to be believed, Barcelona are set to accept the offer.
Should there be no intervention from other suitors like Manchester United, Yerry Mina is likely to be heading towards the blue half of Merseyside.
