Manchester United have reportedly made their move for Harry Maguire, who is confident of sealing his transfer from Leicester City before the season begins.

According to a report by Daily Mirror, Harry Maguire is growing increasingly confident of becoming a Manchester United player before they face current club Leicester City in the Premier League season opener. The Red Devils have made their enquiries for the English international, with a bid imminent.

Maguire is a player who has been on the ascendancy for a couple of years now. Having impressed with Hull City and Leicester City in successive seasons, the player ended up becoming a vital cog for England at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

His solid defensive showings and set-piece prowess have earned him many admirers, Jose Mourinho being one of them. So much so, that Manchester United have reportedly been hell bent on securing the services of the 25-year-old this summer, as the manager looks to bolster his side’s defence.

Mourinho may have a gamut of options at the heart of defence. But, the Manchester United boss often cut a frustrated figure last season due to his side’s apparent frailties at the back. With the manager not fully convinced with his central defensive options, Maguire has emerged as a viable target, with Marcos Rojo most likely to be axed from the squad.

Maguire is unlike any current defender on the Manchester United roster, as he is comfortable on the ball while also posing a major threat in the air. While Leicester City are unwilling to sell, their hand may be forced after the English international recently dropped a massive hint about being open to an exit.

The report also suggests that Maguire is growing confident that he will seal his move well in time for Leicester’s season opener with Manchester United on August 10. The Red Devils have also made their enquiries for the player, and are ready to shell out £65 million to secure his services, with Toby Alderweireld’s pursuit as good as over.

Leicester though, are battling to retain the services of their 2017-18 Player of the Year. The Foxes are ready to hand Maguire a bumper new deal worth £100,000 per week despite only completing one year into his five-year deal. But, the player’s ambition has grown after a stellar World Cup campaign.

Manchester United thus, have a major advantage in their pursuit of the 25-year-old, and will hope to quickly wrap up negotiations to make him their fourth summer signing. Leicester, on the other hand, look primed to lose a second player to a Manchester club this summer.
