Former Manchester United academy graduate Adnan Januzaj could be set for a Premier League return this summer, with Everton interested.
As per reports from Belgian outlet Het Nieuwsblad (h/t The Sun), former Manchester United attacker Adnan Januzaj is a subject of transfer interest for Everton.
Januzaj, who left United to join Real Sociedad last summer, was part of the Belgium national team that finished third in the recently concluded 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. The 23-year old made just a solitary appearance in the tournament, in a group game against England, in which he scored the only goal of the match.
The attacker burst into the Manchester United first-team in the 2013/14 campaign, under then manager David Moyes. Expectations rose sky high after a highly impressive debut campaign, but the youngster couldn’t live up to the initial promise that he had shown.
And after a couple of disappointing loan spells away at Borussia Dortmund and Sunderland, Januzaj left Manchester United last summer for Sociedad, having made 63 appearances in which he scored 5 times and set up 6 more goals. The La Liga outfit paid an initial £8 million fee that could rise to £9.8 million for the Belgian international’s services.
In his first season in Spain, the 23-year old managed to impress, finishing with returns of 4 goals and 6 assists in 35 matches across all competitions. This, coupled with his impressive display in Russia for Belgium, albeit in a single game, has sparked serious interest from Everton.
The Merseysiders are understood to be revamping their squad under new manager Marco Silva. And as part of that rebuild, they are now eyeing the former Manchester United starlet. It is being claimed that the Toffees have already established contact with Real Sociedad to explore the possibility of a summer move for the nine-time capped Belgian international.
Januzaj still has four years left on his current deal with the La Liga outfit. Reportedly, Manchester United inserted a buyback clause in his contract as per terms of the sale last summer. However, there have been no indications as to the Red Devils are looking to trigger that clause, considering that Jose Mourinho is understood to be pursuing another rising star from the World Cup, Ante Rebic, from Eintracht Frankfurt.
Everton are yet to make any inroads into the transfer market this summer, but are closing in on the signing of Brazilian winger Malcom, who had been linked with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal previously. Adding Januzaj, along with the Bordeaux attacker to the ranks, could prove to be a great piece of business for the Toffees, as they look to recover from a disappointing 2017/18 season.
