Real Madrid have reportedly set their sights on Borussia Dortmund defender Raphael Guerreiro, who is also a summer target for PSG.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Don Balon, Raphael Guerreiro is the subject of interest from Real Madrid, who seem to be in the market for a left-back in the summer transfer window. PSG are also interested in signing the Borussia Dortmund defender and reunite him with Thomas Tuchel.

Guerreiro joined Borussia Dortmund from Lorient in the summer of 2016, when he was widely regarded as one of the most promising young full-backs in Europe. However, over the last two years, injuries have forced his development to stutter to a great extent, particularly last season.

Guerreiro missed large chunks of the season after suffering an ankle injury during the Confederations Cup last year, which meant that the Portuguese international could only make 15 appearances across all competitions. But, he continues to be rated quite highly, which explains why Real Madrid are showing an interest in him this summer.

Los Blancos only bolstered the left side of the defence last summer, when they signed Theo Hernandez from Atletico Madrid. But, the young Frenchman failed to leave his mark during the 2017-18 season and is running out of chances to vindicate his recruitment at the cost of spoiling Real Madrid’s relationship with their local rivals.

With Marcelo now 30 and unlikely to continue for several more seasons, Florentino Perez is looking for a true heir to the Brazilian defender, which Theo is not really considered. Guerreiro is, thus, a viable target for Real Madrid, who could have a long-term solution at the left side of defence.

The player’s addition also has the seal of approval from newly appointed manager Julen Lopetegui as well, although Real Madrid aren’t the only club looking to sign him this summer. PSG are also eager to secure Guerreiro’s services, with Thomas Tuchel eager to reunite with the Portuguese international.

The former Borussia Dortmund manager is reportedly set to offload at least Layvin Kurzawa this summer, with Yuri Berchiche also likely to face the axe. And, Les Parisiens are looking to use Guerreiro’s good relationship with Tuchel to beat Real Madrid to his signature.

Game time could be a factor as well, with PSG likely to be a more attractive prospect in that regard. But, Florentino Perez is ready to go all guns blazing in Guerreiro’s pursuit, and we could see the two European heavyweights indulge in a fierce transfer battle for him in the coming months, although any transfer is only likely to take place after Portugal’s World Cup campaign.
