Manchester United have reportedly set their sights on Kylian Mbappe, and are set to battle Real Madrid for the PSG superstar this summer.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Don Balon, Kylian Mbappe could be on his way out of PSG after just one season, with Les Parisiens facing potential FFP sanctions. Manchester United and Real Madrid are interested in signing the Frenchman in the summer transfer window, with both clubs ready to break the bank for him.
Mbappe has been nothing short of a revelation since his first break in senior football with AS Monaco in the 2016-17 season, when he played a leading role in the principality club’s shock Ligue 1 triumph. His exploits in that campaign had made him the single hottest property in world football, with the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United and several others chasing him.
The Frenchman eventually ended up joining PSG in a shock move late last summer, and his star has only continued to rise upon the move. This past season, he formed a deadly attacking trio with Neymar and Edinson Cavani as Les Parisiens dominated French football and won the domestic treble. His own record was exemplary, with 21 goals and 16 assists in 46 outings across all competitions.
Mbappe is unsurprisingly a highly sought-after player in the transfer market once again, especially with PSG potentially facing the heat of Financial Fair Play for the big money moves for him and Neymar. The French champions might, thus, be forced to sell several players, and with Mbappe possibly being one of them, the interest of Real Madrid and Manchester United has been piqued.
Real Madrid have coincidentally been linked with Neymar as well, but the Brazilian’s move might not be set in stone. Mbappe is, thus, a viable alternative, who could be a long-term solution across the frontline, depending on which of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema are sold.
Mbappe would certainly be a fantastic addition for a club that has been in need of consistent goalscorers beyond Ronaldo and Bale for a long time now. But, Real Madrid face stiff competition from Manchester United for the 19-year-old.
The Red Devils, too, are in need to bolster attack this summer, with the right wing a major problem area for Jose Mourinho. In fact, the Manchester United boss has been crying out for a naturally right-sided attacker for a long time now, and Mbappe could be just what he needs, considering his exploits for PSG on the right flank this past season.
Mourinho wants to create an attacking trident featuring Alexis Sanchez, Romelu Lukaku and Mbappe, which he thinks might make Manchester United a force in Europe as well as the Premier League. The Red Devils might even hold the aces over Real Madrid in the teenager’s pursuit.
While the report iterates that Manchester United are willing to lodge a €270 million bid for Mbappe, which can be whittled down to €190 million if Anthony Martial is included in the offer, this information is likely speculation from the publication itself, with Martial reportedly offered a new contract by the club.
Manchester United seem to be winning the race for Mbappe for now, and Real Madrid must pull the strings fast in order to get the ball back in their court.
