Tottenham have reportedly decided to end their interest in Wilfried Zaha after being priced out of a deal by Crystal Palace

According to a report by Sky Sports, Crystal Palace seem to be succeeding in their bid to keep Wilfried Zaha at Selhurst Park beyond the summer transfer window. Tottenham have conceded defeat in pursuit of the former Manchester United winger, with the Eagles commanding £70 million for him.

Zaha has got his career back on track since ending his disastrous two-year stint at Manchester United in the summer of 2015. Since returning to his old stomping ground, the player has rediscovered his best, so much so, that he is now regarded as one of the best in his position in the Premier League.

Zaha has been such a pivotal player for Crystal Palace that the Eagles have found it almost impossible to win games he doesn’t feature in. The Ivory Coast international ended this past season with nine goals and five assists, winning the club’s Player of the Year for the third successive time.

Having shown once again the qualities that didn’t just earn him adulation, but a big move to Manchester United, it is hardly surprising that Zaha has been attracting interest from prominent clubs once again. A club that hold a long-standing interest in him are Tottenham, who were also in his pursuit last summer.

Spurs do have a shortage of players who could be the X-Factor on the flanks, with Lucas Moura the only player capable of doing so. Zaha, with his mazy runs, could create space for the likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli and Harry Kane, while also being a scoring option himself, making him a viable target for Tottenham.

As far as the former Manchester United winger is concerned, the prospect of playing Champions League football could have possibly helped lure him across London to Tottenham, even though Zaha himself had recently insisted he is happy at Crystal Palace and is not looking to leave his “home” anytime soon.

“I have no plans on leaving. I’m enjoying my football, you can see how much I’m enjoying it. This is my home and there’s no reason for me to leave.”

As it now stands, Tottenham have been priced out of a possible deal anyway, with the Eagles resolute in their £70 million valuation of the former Manchester United outcast. Spurs deem the price to be too steep and are now set to turn their attention elsewhere in their bid to bolster their attack.

While the transfer window has still got more than a couple of months before it shuts down, and even though Chelsea have reportedly shown interest, Crystal Palace would be confident of keeping hold of their star man, thanks to the £70 million price that they have slapped on him.
