Jordan Lukaku has reportedly emerged as a shock target for Manchester United to bolster their left-back slot this summer.
According to a report by TransferMarketWeb, Jordan Lukaku is surprisingly the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Lazio defender has been suggested by his brother Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United, who are in the market for a left-back in the summer transfer window.
Jordan Lukaku is the younger brother of Manchester United striker, Romelu, who has enjoyed stupendous success in the Premier League. Jordan, on the other hand, has been on a steady rise in stature, having emanated from the Anderlecht academy, just like his elder brother before eventually joining Lazio in the summer of 2016.
At Stadio Olimpico, Lukaku has gone about establishing himself as a regular, and is now a key figure within the first-team setup. This past season, the player made 44 appearances across all competitions, and is starting to grow as a left-back, both in defensive as well attacking aspects.
His advent at Lazio has not gone unnoticed either, and he has now emerged as a target for Manchester United, who are eager to sign a left-back in the summer transfer window, and have zeroed in on him as their latest option upon the suggestion of the player’s brother Romelu Lukaku.
The need to sign a left-back is imperative for Manchester United, largely due to Luke Shaw’s inability to impress Jose Mourinho over the last two seasons. With the Englishman getting a bit-part role, Ashley Young has had to be deployed as a makeshift left-back, with the likes of Daley Blind, Matteo Darmian and Marcos Rojo making no mark whatsoever.
While Young has taken to the left-back slot quite well, he is no spring chicken at 32, and will need replacing soon even if he is in Mourinho’s plans for next season, especially with Shaw likely to leave Manchester United in the summer, making Lukaku a viable long-term option.
For a long time, Alex Sandro was being viewed as a top summer target for Manchester United, but a move for the Brazilian seems to have reached a roadblock. In his stead, fellow Serie A left-back Lukaku seems to be an alternative.
Lukaku has showed a lot of promise during his two-year stint with Serie A side Lazio, and it remains to be seen if he can continue his upward trajectory at Manchester United, should they make a move for him this summer.
