Manchester United star Daley Blind has been identified as a top-target by Inter Milan, who are looking to boost their defensive department this summer.
According to the latest report from Italian news outlet Gazzetta Dello Sport, Serie A giants Inter Milan has joined the race to sign Daley Blind this summer. The Italian giants are keen to add a new left back into their ranks and have identified the Manchester United as a priority.
Blind, 28, has been deemed surplus to the requirements of head coach Jose Mourinho. The Dutchman has made only 30 appearances in the Premier League, since the appointment of Portuguese mastermind as the new Manchester United boss in 2016.
In the 2017/18 season, in particular, Daley Blind has fallen down the pecking order in Manchester United’s defensive department. The former Ajax defender made only seven league appearances in the past season, three of which came in the first three matchdays of the season.
Furthermore, the Red Devils have also revamped their search of finding an alternative in the left-back position and the likes of Danny Rose and Kieran Tierney have already been linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer, making life even more difficult for Daley Blind.
Hence, a move out of England seems like the most logical way out for the Dutch international, with Inter Milan already making quite an effort to acquire his services this summer. In fact, the 28-year-old also hinted of his possible departure this summer, just after the FA final against Chelsea.
He told De Telegraaf after the game: “United is a nice big club. Of course there is a lot of competition there. I am still under contract for another year. I certainly will not make a panic transfer because it is not guaranteed that I will play at a new club.”
“We have to wait, but it seems logical that I wasn’t satisfied with the second half of the season. So first I’ll go on vacation and then put all the possibilities next to each other.”
Inter boss Luciano Spalletti has money to spend after qualifying for the Champions League next season and having already bagged his fellow countryman Stefan de Vrij, a move for Blind could only make more sense.
The Nerrazurris currently have two options in the left-back position in the shape of Dalbert and Davide Santon, with the latter highly expected to pen a new deal with the club in the coming days. However, that being said, both of these players have hardly featured for the club this season, largely due to their inconsistent performances, ultimately forcing Spalletti to shift Danilo D’Ambrosio in the left-back position.
Therefore, the addition of Blind could be a huge boost for Inter Milan. The Dutchman is someone who can not only fix their problem in the full-back position but also help his team out with his excellent versatility. Aside from featuring as a left-back, the Manchester United defender can also be deployed as a centre-back as well as a holding midfielder, giving Inter a huge boost when it comes to their overall depth.
Blind’s current contract with Manchester United expires at the end of next season, meaning the Italian giants could easily get him on the cheap. However, it would be interesting to see how he manages to rekindle his form in Italy.
