Manchester United star Daley Blind is unhappy with his current situation at the club and will consider a summer departure.
Versatile Manchester United defender Daley Blind has claimed that he has been ‘unsatisfied’ with the way the season panned out for him and will ponder over a possible exit in the summer, in an interview with Dutch outlet De Telegraaf.
Blind joined Manchester United from Dutch side AFC Ajax in the summer of 2014 for a fee of £13.8 million and went on to establish himself as a regular in the side under then manager Louis van Gaal over the next couple of seasons. However, since Jose Mourinho took over the reins at the club in 2016, the 28-year old has seen his involvement reduce drastically.
Blind, till date, has turned out for the Red Devils on 141 occasions in all competitions, however, only 56 of those have come in the last two years under Jose, while 85 came in his first two seasons at the Old Trafford.
The Netherlands international started the first three Premier League games at left-back for United this season, but lost his place to Ashley Young and went on to make just a single start in the top-flight post that. In total, he featured just 17 times across all competitions, scoring one goal and setting up two more, although it must be noted that an ankle injury early on in the year did hamper him.
Speaking about his future at the club Blind told De Telegraaf: “We’re going to think about it in the holidays. United is a nice big club. Of course there is a lot of competition there. I am still under contract for another year.
“I certainly will not make a panic transfer because it is not guaranteed that I will play at a new club. We have to wait, but it seems logical that I wasn’t satisfied with the second half of the season. So first I’ll go on vacation and then put all the possibilities next to each other.”
Blind had his one-year contract extension option triggered by the Mancunian outfit not very long ago. However, judging by his statements, it is clear that he would be open to considering a move away from the Old Trafford. And while he is an effective utility player at Manchester United with his ability to slot in at multiple positions, the club would be better off letting him go as it is quite evident that he doesn’t feature heavily in Mourinho’s plans.
The 28-year old had been linked with a shock move to Barcelona not very long ago, while there has been an enquiry made by Italian outfit AS Roma as well, indicating that there is no shortage of suitors for Blind, should he decide to leave the club before the next season kicks off.
