Jamie Redknapp has claimed that Manchester United should be looking at signing Gareth Bale in the summer to improve their quality of football.
In his editorial column for Daily Mail, Jamie Redknapp has opined on a possible transfer activity from Manchester United in the summer transfer window. The former Liverpool midfielder has claimed that the Premier League runners-up must sign Gareth Bale from Real Madrid in the summer to stop being a boring side.
Bale’s near five-year stint at Real Madrid has been a mixed bag, scaling the headiest of highs while also plummeting to forgettable lows. The player had been a regular feature in his first two seasons at Santiago Bernabeu, but the last three years have been nothing short of a struggle, thanks to a spate of long-term injuries.
The same has been prevalent this season as well, with Bale managing to start just 23 games all season, having also fallen down the pecking order over the course of the campaign. With the Welshman practically fourth choice in attack, it comes as no surprise that his Real Madrid future is up in the air.
And, if widespread reports are anything to go by the 28-year-old does not have a dearth of suitors and is in line to get his next big contract at a top European club. Among those that have reportedly been tailing him, Manchester United have been linked the most heavily with the Real Madrid superstar, although as per recent suggestions, they have ceded their interest in him.
But, if some of their problems in attack are anything to go by, Manchester United could do with a player of Bale’s qualities. Indeed, their attack is eerily left-heavy, with Juan Mata the only player who has been able to have an impact from the right flank.
The Spaniard does not provide a pacy outlet out wide though, and makes his impact by drifting inwards. Bale, on the other hand, can bring exactly what is missing in the Manchester United attack, making it more dynamic and exciting in the final third.
A record of 18 goals and 8 assists in all competitions for Real Madrid is also testament to the fact that the player hasn’t lost his instinct in front of goal, despite the injuries that have dogged him. And, Jamie Redknapp is of the opinion that Bale’s addition would go a long way for Manchester United.
“They finished second and could win the FA Cup but let’s face it… this is one of the most boring United teams. They signed off the league season with a 1-0 win over Watford that was shown last on Match of the Day. If Jose Mourinho wants to change that, he should go and buy Gareth Bale. He has won it all at Real Madrid and won’t be fazed by the Premier League.”
A move to Manchester United could also help Bale prove his naysayers wrong, if he is able to inspire the Red Devils to the Premier League title. But, a move can only happen if they reignite their interest in the €100 million-rated star, and it remains to be seen if a switch from Real Madrid indeed happens this summer.
