Real Madrid are reportedly poised to sign Liverpool midfielder Emre Can in the summer on a free transfer.
Real Madrid are on the verge of clinching the signing of out-of-contract Liverpool midfield mainstay Emre Can at the end of the season, as per reports from Spanish outlet Don Balon.
The German international will see his contract with Liverpool expire at the end of the season and has shown little intentions of penning a new deal with the Merseysiders. His possible availability in the summer has sparked a bit of a frenzy in the transfer market, with a number of big clubs lining up to sign him.
Italian champions Juventus have been monitoring Can’s situation since the summer of 2017 and have made no secret of their interest in the Liverpool star. However, it is being reported that negotiations between the Bianconeri and the 24-year old have hit an impasse recently.
The presence of Sami Khedira, Blaise Matuidi and Miralem Pjanic along with Rodrigo Bentancur and veteran Claudio Marchisio as options in the middle of the park is something that is likely to hamper Can’s game time in Turin and as a result, the midfielder is having reservations over a move.
Can’s youth club and German champions Bayern Munich too are reportedly in the reckoning to sign the 24-year old while there has been some amount of interest from Liverpool’s Premier League rivals Manchester City too.
However, it seems that Real Madrid have stolen a march on their competitors in the chase for the talented German international and are close to completing a deal.
The Galacticos’ president Florentino Perez is understood to be keen on revamping his squad ahead of the next season, having been blown out of the La Liga title race by fierce rivals Barcelona. And he sees the addition of more young players into the team as a step in the right direction.
Luka Modric will be 33 when the next season kicks off and has hinted at the possibility of moving on from the Spanish capital, while Toni Kroos’ future at the club is a bit uncertain as well, with Manchester City reportedly lining up a bid for the German pass master.
And with young midfielder Dani Ceballos, who was signed from Real Betis in the last summer, also understood to be on the way out, there will be places up for grabs in the Real Madrid midfield.
Can, this season, has appeared 37 times for Liverpool in all competitions and has scored six goals in the process. The 24-year old has shown all signs of developing into a star in the near future. A versatile and proven performer with good amount of experience and just 24 years old, Can will prove to be a great coup for Real Madrid, if they sign him in the summer.
