Manchester United are reportedly set to make a sensational swap offer to Juventus in their bid to land Alex Sandro in the summer.
According to a report by TransferMarketWeb, Manchester United are looking to do all that they can to land Alex Sandro in the summer transfer window. The Premier League heavyweights are set to offer either Matteo Darmian or Anthony Martial as part of a swap deal to secure the services of the Juventus defender.
Alex Sandro’s career has been on an upward trajectory ever since he joined Juventus from Porto in the summer of 2015. A mainstay at the back for the Bianconeri, the Brazilian is quintessentially modern full-back who is a menace in the final third while also being adept defensively.
This season, Sandro has been a regular feature in Massimiliano Allegri’s side once again, with 33 appearances under his belt. He is also a steady contributor in the final third, having bagged 3 goals and 6 assists for Juventus. But, his future at the club is highly uncertain, with Manchester United hot in his pursuit.
There have been constant uncertainties plaguing the left-back slot at Manchester United ever since Jose Mourinho took charge last season. While Ashley Young has stepped up this season as a makeshift full-back, he is in the twilight of his career and needs to be replaced.
Beyond the veteran Englishman, Luke Shaw has never quite managed to win over Mourinho over the last two seasons, and is reportedly set to move away from Old Trafford in the summer. Signing a left-back is, thus, a priority for Manchester United, making Sandro a viable target.
In order to tempt Juventus into selling the player, the Red Devils are set to make a swap offer, with either Matteo Darmian or Anthony Martial set to go the other way. The Bianconeri have a long-standing interest in both players as they look to bolster their squad in the summer.
Darmian, in particular, looks set to move away from Manchester United in the coming transfer window after falling completely out of favour with Mourinho at Old Trafford. Martial, on the other hand, has fallen down the pecking order after a strong start to the season, and could be happy to move to Juventus, where he could start more regularly.
Either way, the swap deal would see all four parties come off happy, although Manchester United supporters are likely to be in favour of letting Darmian go the other way instead of fan favourite Martial.
Whether it’s Darmian or Martial heading to Juventus, what is clear is that Manchester United are stepping up their interest in Alex Sandro, and are looking at a swap deal to avoid paying his €55 million price tag. It now remains to be seen if the Brazilian indeed makes his way to Old Trafford in the summer, and if either of the aforementioned players is part of the deal.
