Both Manchester United and Manchester City are heavily interested in signing OGC Nice midfielder Jean-Michael Seri.

Manchester United and Manchester City could be set to battle each other once again in the transfer market, as both the clubs are strongly linked with a move for Ivory Coast international Jean-Michael Seri, as per a report from the Manchester Evening News.

The two Premier League giants clashed in the January transfer window for the signature of Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal with the Chilean eventually choosing Jose Mourinho’s Red Devils over Pep Guardiola’s champions-elect. And the two teams are likely to clash once again to sign Seri in the summer.

The 26-year old, who joined Nice in the summer of 2015, has emerged as one of the most sought-after midfielders across Europe after a stellar last two seasons. Seri was one of Nice’s top players as they finished third in the French Ligue 1 last season and has continued to enhance his reputation in the ongoing campaign as well.

So far in the 2017/18 season, Seri has made 35 appearances across all competitions for the French outfit, scoring one goal and registering 7 assists in the process.

Both Manchester United and Manchester City have made signing a central midfielder a top priority in the summer ahead of the next season.

Manchester United are set to lose two of their first-team members in the central midfield position with Marouane Fellaini set to leave the club at the end of the season on a free transfer, while club captain Michael Carrick will be retiring. Rumours of a possible exit for club record signing Paul Pogba have also been doing the rounds of late.

Amidst all this, manager Mourinho has put a new central midfielder at the top of his summer shopping list as he sets out to build a team capable of challenging their neighbours for the league title.

Manchester City, on the other hand, are on the lookout for a long-term replacement for midfield mainstay Fernandinho. Manager Guardiola is of the opinion that his side are overly dependent on the Brazilian international and wants to address that given that the midfielder is already 32 years of age.

Moreover, the club will also be losing long-time servant Yaya Toure at the end of the season, creating a vacancy in the central midfield department.

And Seri, in more than one ways, would be an ideal fit at either clubs A natural ball-winning midfielder with great technical ability and an eye for goal, the 26-year old could easily slot in either of the two teams and improve the overall quality of the squads.

Both Manchester United and Manchester City were linked with a move for Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred not very long ago. However, they seem to have moved on to make Seri as their top transfer target. It remains to be seen as to where the 26-year old will end up, but another transfer war between the two Manchester clubs is very much on the cards come summer.
