Vincent Kompany is relishing a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to clinch the Premier League title against Manchester United next month.

As reported by The Sun, Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany is well aware of the fact that the Premier League leaders can confirm their title win against arch rivals Manchester United next month. The Belgian defender has made it clear that they will give it their all when presented with this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Manchester City have been imperious throughout the Premier League campaign, bar a few occasions, having been the runaway leaders after just two months into the season. Pep Guardiola’s men have gone about steadily building their lead atop the table, with nearest challengers Manchester United faltering here and there.

With points dropped in just four of their 30 games so far, and a massive goal difference of +65 it has been clear for a while now that Manchester City will romp to the Premier League title sooner rather than later.

But, following recent results, a unique opportunity has arisen for the Citizens. Manchester United had closed the gap on their neighbours to 13 points following their 2-1 win over Liverpool, but a 2-0 win over Stoke City on Monday has seen them establish a 16-point advantage.

Manchester City now need just two wins to secure their third Premier League title. A closer inspection on their fixtures though, would suggest that they can go on to clinch the title by beating rivals Manchester United, a prospect captain Vincent Kompany has hailed as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

“Everybody in the blue side of Manchester knows it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to win the title against United. But, steady, we’ve one more game before United, which will be difficult, and then we see. I’m sure it won’t be handed to us. Every win brings you closer to your goal but we want to keep this standard until the end of the season and into the next season too.”

The Premier League title win is inevitable for Manchester City. But, as Kompany has iterated, winning it against their illustrious rivals in the Manchester Derby next month would just be the cherry on top of the cake for Pep Guardiola & co.
