Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly pushing for Florentino Perez to bring Paris Saint-Germain star Goncalo Guedes, currently on loan at Valencia, to Real Madrid.
Spanish publication Don Balon are claiming that Cristiano Ronaldo has already earmarked a player who could go on to win the Ballon d’Or and he wants Florentino Perez to sign him in the summer. The player in question is none other than his compatriot Goncalo Guedes, who is currently on loan at Valencia from Paris Saint-Germain.
Goncalo Guedes reportedly rejected a chance to join Manchester United on course to signing for Paris Saint-Germain in January. While he did make a handful of appearances, the summer saw him being loaned out to Valencia, especially with the arrival of Neymar, which ultimately saw the wide positions being overstaffed.
At Valencia, Guedes had a blistering start, with many hailing him as the fine talent that he has always been touted to be. There were even rumours of Paris Saint-Germain worrying whether they had made the wrong decision in sending the player out on loan. Guedes’ season though, has petered out a bit.
Despite that, a return of 4 goals and 9 assists in 23 La Liga appearances is more than modest for a player’s maiden season in a league such as La Liga. Guedes has been linked with many clubs after the start to his loan stint at Valencia, with Real Madrid and a few Premier League clubs linked with the player.
Even Valencia were linked with a view to making the loan move permanent. But, it seems the links have taken a backseat of sorts, with the Portuguese’s form stabilising a bit.
Cristiano Ronaldo though, has taken note of the talent that Guedes possesses and with Real Madrid looking to add to their attack, with Gareth Bale touted to be on the transfer list come summer, the Ballon d’Or winner is pushing for the club to bankroll a move for Guedes, who he genuinely believes could be in contention to win the Ballon d’Or in the years to come.
According to the report, PSG value him at around €60 million – a fee that might raise a problem for Valencia, but not the likes of Real Madrid. Ronaldo is not the only one who believes Guedes to be a supernormal talent and while his form has petered out of late, his talent is there for all to see.
Who knows, Real Madrid might just find their next Portuguese superstar in the 21-year-old.
