Ryan Sessegnon reportedly favours a summer move to Liverpool, amid interest from the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.
According to an exclusive report by Daily Express, Liverpool have received a major boost in pursuit of Ryan Sessegnon. The teenage sensation prefers a move to the Merseyside club, handing a blow to Manchester United and Tottenham.
Sessegnon has taken English football by storm since making his senior debut for Fulham last season at the nascent age of 16. Since then, the player has progressed leaps and bounds and is already one of the first names on the team sheet at Craven Cottage.
In addition to his ever improving defensive abilities, Sessegnon has made a massive impression with his ability to consistently contribute to his team’s cause on the other end of the pitch. He has a staggering record of 14 goals and 4 assists in 36 league games thus far, and it comes as no surprise that Manchester United, Liverpool and the other big Premier League clubs are after him.
At Liverpool, the player could be a solution in midfield, with his ability to make driving runs forward while also contributing defensively. Alternatively, he could also be an option in defence, although Jurgen Klopp seems to be content with Alberto Moreno and Andrew Robertson as his options at left-back.
Manchester United, on the other hand, could possibly be eyeing Sessegnon as a defensive solution, with Ashley Young on the wrong side of 30 and Luke Shaw the only other left-back at Jose Mourinho’s disposal.
Tottenham, too, could be in need of signing a left-back in the summer, with Danny Rose heavily linked with a move away from the club – Manchester United have coincidentally been linked with a move for him. But, Manchester United and Tottenham have fallen behind Liverpool in the race to sign Sessegnon.
The 17-year-old prefers a move to Anfield over other Premier League heavyweights, having grown up as a Liverpool fan. Manchester United and Tottenham, thus, have an uphill task on their hands if they are to tempt the player to change his mind.
Fulham, though, haven’t already lost the race to keep hold of him, with the player likely to stay put if the West Londoners clinch promotion to the Premier League. However, if they fail, the Cottagers might be helpless in their bid to keep him, with Liverpool his likeliest destination.
