Arsenal attacker Mesut Ozil reportedly Signs New £350,000-a-week Deal

After months of speculation, Mesut Ozil has signed a new deal with Arsenal until the summer of  2021 to become the Gunners’ highest earner in history.

According to BBC’s David Ornstein, Mesut Ozil has signed a new Arsenal deal which would keep him at the Emirates until the summer of 2021. The news would mean a lot to Arsenal and its supporters, who have endured uncertainty surrounding the German’s future for a few months now.

Mesut Ozil’s contract was due to expire in the summer and has now signed a new deal worth £350,000-per-week before taxes and the duration of the contract is reported to be a three-and-a-half year contract.

The terms of the deal means, Mesut Ozil becomes Arsenal’s highest earner in the current squad and at the end of the new deal, Ozil would have spent eight years at Arsenal.

Arsenal and Ozil have been at loggerheads and sometime last year, when the club offered him fresh terms, it was rejected by the German and his agent. Him along with Alexis Sanchez were on the verge of bids from other clubs, but Arsenal resisted any offer in the summer to keep their stars.

Alexis Sanchez, however, left for Manchester United in the current window, but there was a general belief that Ozil would commit to a new contract sooner rather than later.

He joined Arsenal in the summer of 2013 from Real Madrid for a then record fee of £42.5 million. The deal he signed then was to end its course, and thus making him available to talk to other clubs in January.

In the previous summer, Ozil was linked to a number of clubs including interest from Barcelona, as well from Manchester United who were also reported to be plotting a January move for the German.

He has, however, pledged his future to the Gunners in what seems like the last big contract of his career. Arsenal are yet to announce and officially confirm the news, but it is believed to be more or less done.

Arsenal signed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang earlier today for a club record fee of £56 million from Borussia Dortmund, eclipsing the fee paid for Frenchman Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon in the summer.

Arsenal fans would be waiting to see Ozil, Lacazette, Aubameyang and fellow new signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan sizzle on the pitch as finally, the new deal puts end to months of speculation and uncertainty surrounding the superstar’s  future.
