Liverpool have reportedly reached agreement over personal terms with Thomas Lemar, who is also being a January target for Arsenal.
According to a report by Yahoo Sports UK, Liverpool have an agreement in place with Thomas Lemar over a move in the current transfer window. The AS Monaco forward is also the subject of interest from Arsenal, who are eager to bolster their attack this month.
Lemar made up the core group of players that led Monaco to an unprecedented Ligue 1 triumph last season. The principality club were subsequently poached for their best players by some of the most prominent clubs in Europe, the Frenchman being one of them.
Liverpool were among the clubs that tried signing the player last summer, while Arsenal almost landed him in a late deadline day bid, before he ended up staying put at Stade Louis II. Since August though, Lemar has struggled to capture the heights of last season, only managing 3 goals and 5 assists in 23 appearances.

But, interest in him hasn’t ceded, with several clubs still in pursuit of the Frenchman. Speculation over his future has increased following his omission from Monaco’s matchday squad last weekend, and it is Liverpool and Arsenal once again that are leading the race to sign him this month.
At Liverpool, Philippe Coutinho’s departure to Barcelona has left a gaping hole in attack, with the Reds in need of a burst of creativity. Lemar has proven that he can see a pass and find a target man in addition to boasting a decent eye for goal, making him a viable target to add to the quality attacking ranks of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino.
At Arsenal, the need to bolster attack is an urgent one following Alexis Sanchez’s move to Manchester United earlier this week. The Chilean’s departure leaves the Gunners short of goals and creativity, which is exactly what Lemar can bring to the table.
But, Arsenal might have to step up in order to get anywhere near securing Lemar’s services, with their Premier League rivals leading the race to sign him. Liverpool already have an agreement in place with the player over a move this month, although the transfer fee is proving to be a bit of a stumbling block.
AS Monaco have slapped a €100 million price tag on the 22-year-old, and the Reds have refused to meet the valuation. It now remains to be seen though, if Liverpool can manage to reach a compromise with the Ligue 1 club to reinforce their attack this month, or if Arsenal come swooping in with a higher bid.
