Virgil van Dijk could be set to make his Premier League debut for Liverpool, who pay a visit to Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium on Monday.
Liverpool will look to extend their fine three-month long unbeaten run when they travel to the Liberty Stadium to take on rock-bottom Swansea City on Monday. The streak aside, Jurgen Klopp has some more things to be happy about, with the injury woes easing up in his squad.
The Liverpool boss has just Nathaniel Clyne (back), Daniel Sturridge (hamstring) and Danny Ward (back) remaining on the treatment table ahead of Monday’s game. Jordan Henderson (hamstring) and Alberto Moreno (ankle) have returned to training, but the visit to Swansea has come too soon for them.
One player who looks set to return is Virgil van Dijk, who is in line to make his Premier League debut for the Reds after missing last weekend’s 4-3 win over Manchester City.
Klopp hinted towards the same in his pre-match press conference as he confirmed that the Dutchman was fit. The Liverpool boss also talked about a few players who are doubtful due to illness.
“Virgil was back yesterday and completely fine. We have a few problems with players feeling ill or unwell. Raggy was out, but hopefully back today. Dejan was out. Mo Salah was out, but hopefully back today. Mo and Raggy are on the good side of it already, but with Dejan we are not 100 per cent sure [if he will be back today].”
With Ragnar Klavan and Dejan Lovren doubtful, van Dijk becomes an obvious choice to start alongside Joel Matip at the heart of defence. Joe Gomez and Andrew Robertson should start as the full-backs as has been the case in recent weeks. Klopp also confirmed that Loris Karius will start in goal once again.
In midfield, with Henderson unavailable, the trio of Emre Can, Georginio Wijnaldum and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are expected to start once again, with James Milner and Adam Lallana the other options at his disposal.
The Liverpool attack picks itself though, with Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, who should be available after recovering from illness, all expected to start in a strong side.
