Tottenham are reportedly plotting a move for Norwich City midfielder James Maddison, who is also a target for Liverpool and Manchester City.

According to Evening Standard, Tottenham have joined a host of clubs chasing Norwich City midfielder James Maddison. The youngster has been turning heads in the Championship as part of the Canaries, with Liverpool, Manchester City and Leicester City among other Premier League stars interested in the player.

James Maddison has truly shined in the Championship this season so far, with Norwich City one of the many contenders to gain promotion but failing to live up to early season expectations – the Canaries currently lie 13th on the table.

Norwich might just be set to lose another one of their gems, with Liverpool, Manchester City and Leicester City all interested in the 21-year-old.

Liverpool might be looking to add the England Under-21 international as a backup to the first-team for now and potentially a long-term addition to their roster at Anfield. Maddison would gel in well in what is already an English-heavy core for Liverpool.

Manchester City, on the other hand, could be looking to boost their home-grown quota by bringing in James Maddison, who could act as more of a backup. Leicester City seems like the only team that can possibly hand the 21-year-old some regular Premier League action, for now atleast.

But, Tottenham could provide an alternate solution, one which could be amicable for all parties involved. The report states that Spurs are willing to loan back Maddison for the rest of the season as part of the deal to sign the 21-year-old. Norwich have already let go of Alex Pritchard and would love to be absolved, albeit temporarily, of the responsibility of finding a replacement for Maddison as well.

Norwich are reportedly willing to do a deal around the £20 million mark, which is unlikely to bother Tottenham, or Liverpool, Manchester City or Leicester much. Tottenham’s willingness to agree to loan back Maddison for the rest of the season might hand them the advantage in this pursuit.

Liverpool, Manchester City and Leicester City though, might have something to say about it.
