Former Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez has scored just four goals since his summer move to West Ham United and the club are considering a January sale
West Ham United are ready to consider offers for star striker Javier Hernandez in January, according to reports from the Mirror. The East Londoners signed Hernandez in the previous summer from German Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen for a fee of £17 million.
The signing was hailed as a great coup by pundits and media alike, but things haven’t exactly gone according to plans for West Ham and the player. And now, less than six months after his signature, the club are prepared to offload the striker, owing to his poor performances.
The 29-year old has managed to find the back of the net on just four occasions in 21 appearances across all competitions. And this has led to the Hammers’ management considering a sale, if there is a concrete offer on the table for the former Manchester United forward.
Hernandez’s experience and know-how of the Premier League, from his time with Manchester United was cited as a huge plus point when the Hammers brought him in, in July last year. The Mexican international had spent five years with the Red Devils between 2010 and 2015, in which he had managed 59 goals and 20 assists in 158 appearances, winning two Premier League titles as well.

And he had enjoyed a fairly fruitful spell in his two years in Germany, hitting the target on 39 occasions for Leverkusen in 76 appearances.
However, things just haven’t worked out for ‘Chicharito’ at the London Olympic Stadium. And the regime change at the club hasn’t helped him either, given that the player did not enjoy the best of the working relationships with current manager David Moyes, during the pair’s time together at the Old Trafford during the 2013/14 campaign.
West Ham are set to lose fellow forward Diafra Sakho in the winter window, with Crystal Palace maintaining an interest in the Senegalese striker. And given Andy Carroll’s injury record, one would think it wouldn’t be the wisest move to sell Hernandez also in January, without bringing in suitable replacements.
There have been reports of a move for Russian forward Fyodor Smolov, who plays for FK Krasnodar. Even if the Hammers manage to bring in the striker, they could still be left short-handed in the attacking department, should they decide to cash in on Hernandez.
