Transfer News: Manchester United, Everton told to cough up £4 million to land Jake Turner

Bolton Wanderers have reportedly slapped a hefty £4 million price tag on highly-rated Jake Turner, who is on the radar of Everton and Manchester United.

The ridiculous inflation of the transfer market continues to baffle everyone. According to The Sun, Bolton have placed a staggering £4 million price tag on their prodigious young custodian Jake Turner, who is a target for both Everton and Manchester United.

The amount is indeed shocking because of the fact that the player is yet to play even a single minute of senior football for Bolton, which seems to have not deterred the Championship outfit from telling Turner’s suitors to cough up £4 million in order to get their target.

While the figure isn’t much for the likes of Everton and Manchester United, both of whom have been spending freely in the market recently, the price tag has certainly put off the suitors, which could only prove detrimental for the cash-strapped Bolton Wanderers.

Manchester United do view Turner as a prospect who has the potential to take over from David De Gea as the first-choice at Old Trafford in the long scheme of things. But, the Red Devils would think twice about splashing such a fee for a player who is yet to make his senior debut at Bolton.

United have been linked with another defender from the Championship – Ryan Sessegnon – and seem prepared to spend in multiples of the £4 million fee mentioned here. But, the difference is in Sessegnon’s experience, with the youngster already a key player at Craven Cottage for more than a year now.

Everton on the other hand, may have been looking towards Turner as a backup to Jordan Pickford, who has arrived at Goodison only in the summer and looks set to guard the posts for the foreseeable future. Everton pulled out all stops for Pickford and are unlikely to be making plans to dethrone him anytime soon.

As such, the £4 million price tag could just see suitors cool their interest in Turner and wait for the player to finally make his senior debut for Bolton – he has made the bench a few times.

Bolton need the cash and could settle for lesser, in case United, Everton or any other club for that matter come swooping in for Turner. But, based on the given information and for the mentioned fee, a January move seems out of the picture for the goalkeeper, who should focus on making the senior grade at Bolton soon.
