Liverpool are reportedly on the lookout for a shot stopper and may turn to AS Roma’s Brazilian stopper Alisson to solve a major problem area.
According to The Sun, Liverpool have switched their attention to Alisson Becker and see the Brazilian as the solution to their long standing problems between the sticks. Liverpool have had defensive problems for quite a while now, and after spending £75 million on defender Virgil van Dijk, the Reds are expected to further spend and recruit a goalkeeper.
Liverpool have had a rollercoaster ride since Jurgen Klopp took over from Brendan Rodgers. While the Reds score plenty of goals, their problem area lies on the defensive side of the pitch. This season the Red’s defence has conceded some questionable goals and given away points from excellent positions.
The recruitment of van Dijk might be seen as a solution to the central defensive position, and the Liverpool manager is interested in bolstering his goalkeeping options.
Liverpool’s current options, Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius have been unconvincing and vulnerable in front of goal. The recent 3-3 draw against Arsenal highlighted the goalkeeping problem, as Liverpool shipped three goals in five minutes, owing a great deal to Mignolet’s inefficiency.
Karius, on the other hand, has had his own nervy moments this season and Klopp seems to have lost patience in both his shot-stoppers. Liverpool are, thus, in the market for a goalkeeper and have switched their attention to Roma’s Alisson.

Alisson, who has made 24 appearances this season has been in good form for Roma. The 25-year-old is also expected to fight for Brazil’s number one spot with Ederson at the World Cup in the coming summer, owing to his impressive form for Roma this season,
In all, Alisson has conceded only 18 goals in all competitions, keeping 12 clean sheets. While the Brazilian has been at the club since 2016, he got his chance after on-loan former Arsenal man Wojciech Szczęsny left to join Juventus in the summer.
The attention from Liverpool comes after impressive display this season. Alisson is not the only goalkeeper on Liverpool’s radar, as they are also reportedly linked with a move for PSG’s Kevin Trapp, who has seen his place taken by Alphonse Areola in Paris.
PSG, themselves, are keen on Alisson, as they still seek a solid shot stopper in addition to Alphonse Areola, who they still don’t consider as a complete product. Areola has lacked in certain aspects of the game and PSG are willing to spend on Alisson and secure their defence.
Trapp’s future at the Paris clubs too remains uncertain, the interest from Liverpool notwithstanding, as he eyes a move elsewhere. Signing Alisson would be viewed either as a cover for Areola or replacing him altogether. It now remains to be seen if the Reds manage to sign the Brazilian, or if PSG prise him away instead.
