Liverpool and Tottenham are both eyeing a move for Sheffield United star David Brooks, who could reportedly be signed for a fee of £20 million.
According to The Mirror, the chase for David Brooks seems to be hotting up. Liverpool and Tottenham are both ready to step up their pursuit for the Sheffield United midfielder, who could be available for a fee around £20 million according to the report.
David Brooks is one of the few youngsters that were allowed to leave Manchester City on a free transfer. The youngster left the City Under-18 side to join Sheffield United in the summer of 2014. A season after though, the 20-year-old managed to break into the first-team setup and has since become a regular for the Blades.
Brooks also courted controversy as the youngster had opted to represent the Welsh senior side after playing 5 games for England till the Under-20s.

Now established as a regular member of the senior squad at Bramall Lane, the attacking midfielder has featured in all but two of his side’s Championship matches up until now – wherein Brooks was an unused substitute. His return of a goal and 2 assists might need improvement, but his performances have managed to capture the attention of top clubs.
Liverpool have been keen on the 20-year-old since October. And it seems, the Reds have been joined by fellow Premier League title rivals Tottenham in pursuit of the midfielder.
The Merseyside club are always on the lookout for youthful additions to their squad and with Jurgen Klopp, who is hailed as a huge proponent of young talent, at the helm, the Reds have been eyeing the midfielder as a player for the senior squad. Klopp has been short of options in midfield and the manager may feel he can convert the 20-year-old into a pure central midfielder.
Tottenham, on the other hand, could use the player in the Dele Alli role, which would also provide Mauricio Pochettino with the option of resting the English superstar on certain occasions. The manager has been successful in integrating youth into the squad on a consistent basis and could be viewing Brooks as a long-term bet.
Indeed, if the in-demand Alli does end up leaving in the near future, Tottenham could be in dire need of a replacement. As such, Pochettino could add Brooks now and groom the player to take over from Alli in the future, if need be.

The report states that the 20-year-old could be available for £20 million entailing that while Sheffield United regard Brooks as an indispensable member of the squad, the Blades could be tempted to accept the fee in order to reinforce other positions in an attempt to fuel their promotion charge.
Both the clubs will want Brooks in their own squad. But, Brooks will want to see which club can provide him with a better promise for first-team minutes. The 20-year-old will not be as desperate for Premier League football in January as Sheffield United are currently on course to gain promotion.
This looks like a deal that could be done. But, we could maybe see a transfer being agreed in January, with a loan back to Sheffield United for the remainder of the season.
