Barcelona are reportedly eyeing a potential swoop for Harry Winks, having watched the Tottenham midfielder in action earlier this week.

According to a report by London Evening Standard, Barcelona have set their sights on Harry Winks, who has drawn comparisons with veteran midfielder Andres Iniesta. But, Tottenham are trying to tie down the English midfielder to a new deal for the third time in the last twelve months.

Winks progressed through the ranks at Tottenham before breaking into the first-team setup in 2014. The player, in fact, has flourished under the tutelage of Mauricio Pochettino, going from strength to strength since his Premier League debut last season.

This season, Winks has made 12 appearances across all competitions for Tottenham, having established himself as a key figure in the first-team setup. His exploits have also helped him earn his maiden international cap, when he made his debut for the England national side last month.

With his reputation burgeoning with each passing game though, the player is starting to attract interest from some prominent names in Europe, with Barcelona keeping a keen eye on his progress.

The Blaugrana, in fact, had the player scouted recently, with Sporting Director Robert Fernandez present at Wembley to watch him in action earlier this week against bitter rivals Real Madrid as Tottenham thrashed them 3-1.

The report claims that his intention was to monitor Christian Eriksen, who has been heavily linked with a move to Camp Nou in recent months as well. But, Winks ended up catching the eye instead, after flourishing in a deep lying role for Spurs.

Having already showcased his abilities to dictate the tempo of the game from the centre of the park, in what is only his second full season with the North London club, Winks has been identified as a possible target for Barcelona, who are scouring for a long-term successor for Andres Iniesta.

It comes as no surprise that a player who has been given the moniker ‘Little Iniesta’ by Pochettino, and has often drawn comparisons with the veteran Spain midfielder, is now being tailed by Barcelona as he continues to progress admirably.

But, Tottenham have no intention of letting Winks depart from the club, and are ready to hand him a new deal, for the third time within the last twelve months. Winks, too, is committed to his boyhood club, focused on cementing a regular place under Pochettino, and it remains to be seen if Barcelona manage to lure him to Camp Nou.
