Real Madrid have reportedly set their sights on Tottenham Hotspur captain Hugo Lloris over a potential move in the future.
According to a report in Spanish publication Don Balon, Hugo Lloris is the subject of interest from Real Madrid, who are weighing up a potential future move for him. The Tottenham captain has been on the radar of Los Blancos for a while now, and is seen as a realistic target for the club.
Lloris has transformed into one of the best goalkeepers in the world since joining Tottenham from Lyon in a €10 million deal in 2012. His progress has been so extraordinary that the French shot stopper has been entrusted with the responsibility of leading both club and country.
In the last few seasons, Lloris has played an instrumental role in Tottenham’s evolution into genuine Premier League title contenders, with the goalkeeper keeping the most clean sheets in the English top flight since the start of the 2015-16 season (33).
But, his exploits between the sticks for Tottenham and France have also earned the 30-year-old a lot of admirers, with some of the biggest clubs in Europe showing an interest in him. One suitor though, whose radar Lloris has been on for a long time now are Real Madrid.
The Spanish and European champions have been linked with a host of top shot-stoppers in the continent over the last few transfer windows, before Zinedine Zidane chose to stick with Keylor Navas. However, as per the latest report, a goalkeeper seems to be a priority for Los Blancos yet again.
The interest in Lloris does come as a surprise though, as like Navas, he will be turning 31 this year, and is not going to be a long-term solution at the Bernabeu, unlike goalkeepers like Kepa Arrizabalaga and Gianluigi Donnarumma, who are reported targets as well.
Nevertheless, the report suggests that Florentino Perez will take the opportunity to approach Tottenham for Lloris when the North London club visit Real Madrid at the Bernabeu in the Champions League. Spurs though, are expected to be unwilling to part ways with their captain anytime soon.
It now remains to be seen if Real Madrid indeed make a concrete offer to sign Lloris in the future and if so, are able to persuade Tottenham to sell the player.
