Transfer Rumour: Manchester United interested in Cadiz winger Alvaro Garcia

Manchester United are reportedly interested in Cadiz winger Alvaro Garcia, who currently has an €8 million release clause embedded in his contract.

According to Spanish publication Grada 3, Manchester United are interested in Cadiz winger Alvaro Garcia. Jose Mourinho has reportedly watched a lot of Cadiz players in action and has communicated his desire of signing the Spaniard to the hierarchy at United.

Alvaro Garcia has had a very low-profile career to date. Joining Granada CF in 2013, the player was sent out on loan for successive seasons before being allowed to join Cadiz on a free transfer in the summer of 2016.

His debut season was a huge success, with the player featuring in each and every match for Cadiz and a return of 5 goals and 11 assists to show for his efforts. And Garcia has started the present season similarly, with 2 goals in 4 appearances already, with a muscle injury preventing him from racking more appearances against his name.

Manchester United’s need for a left winger does not need a new dialogue. Jose Mourinho publicly stated the desire, which was left unfulfilled in the summer transfer window, thanks to a drawn-out failed pursuit of Ivan Perisic. The Portuguese has been on a scouting mission ever since, scouring for potential left wingers to target in the upcoming transfer window(s).

While United have been linked to Gareth Bale and Mijat Gacinovic recently, Jose Mourinho may have stumbled upon the perfect candidate to reinforce the left side of attack in January, should the Portuguese boss feel the need – Alvaro Garcia.

The 25-year-old has only recently started gaining attention for his football and reportedly has a meagre €8 million release clause embedded in his Cadiz deal – a six-year deal that the player signed in 2016. Thus, he will be a cost-friendly option along with a realistic January target.

Also, the 25-year-old would not put in ludicrous demands for the transfer and is unlikely to create much fuss on being part of the rotation policy, considering the jump from Cadiz to United. But, Garcia’s ability to adapt to such a higher grade and faster pace of football in the Premier League compared to the second division in Spain is still undefined.

Garcia’s release clause will rise to €15 million in the summer. Although, the higher release clause will only come to effect if Cadiz secures promotion to the top tier of Spanish football.

The report states that Mourinho is intent on a January move for Alvaro Garcia. But, it seems Mourinho is just keeping his options open by scouting players like Garcia and Gacinovic. More likely than not, the United manager is looking to avoid another Ivan Perisic situation by shortlisting achievable targets this time around.
