Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly urged Real Madrid president Florentino Perez to sign William Carvalho from Sporting Lisbon.
According to a report in Spanish publication Don Balon, Cristiano Ronaldo has asked Florentino Perez to revisit his boyhood club Sporting Lisbon to make a move for William Carvalho. Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane is seriously considering a future bid for the Portuguese midfielder.
Carvalho progressed through the ranks at Sporting Lisbon before establishing himself as a fundamental component of the club’s first-team setup. A mainstay in midfield for the Portuguese giants, the player is also a key figure for his national side, and played an influential role in the Seleccao’s Euro 2016 triumph.
Now the Sporting captain, Carvalho has made 162 senior appearances for the club, with a decent return of 10 goals and 14 assists, considering he is primarily a holding midfielder. The player has started the 2017-18 season in strong fashion as well, with Sporting keeping pace with Porto atop the Liga NOS table.

Therefore, it’s not surprising that the 25-year-old has attracted interest from some of the biggest clubs in the world, with Premier League clubs, in particular, tailing him for a long time. However, Carvalho could be making a dream move to Real Madrid instead, if compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo gets his wish.
The Portugal captain is an admirer of Carvalho’s talents, and believes that the player will boost Zinedine Zidane’s options considerably. Indeed, with the 25-year-old adept at playing as a holding midfielder as well as a centre-back, he is potentially an asset for the Real Madrid boss.
While his ability to play at the heart of defence will shore up options immensely, with Jesus Vallejo struggling to stamp his authority upon his return to the club. Up ahead, Carvalho’s addition could enable Zidane to hand more rest to Casemiro, who has practically been playing week in week out for Los Blancos.
Zidane, too, is keen on adding the Portugal international to his squad for the same reason, and a January move could be on the cards. It now remains to be seen if Perez heeds Ronaldo’s request to make a move for the Sporting Lisbon midfielder.
