Arsenal have reportedly set their sights on Turkish wonderkid Abdulkadir Omur, with Atletico Madrid interested in the Trabzonspor attacker as well.

According to a report in The Sun, Trabzonspor playmaker Abdulkadir Omur is the subject of interest from Arsenal and Atletico Madrid. The two European heavyweights are already in pursuit of the Turkish wonderkid, and are eager to add him to their respective youth squads.

Abdulkadir Omur is an 18-year-old Trabzon native, who progressed through the ranks at Trabzonspor before breaking into the first-team setup in 2016 at the nascent age of just 16. He further made waves across Turkey as well as Europe after enjoying a breakthrough campaign last season.

Still only in his teens, Omur has become a regular fixture in the first-team setup at the Senol Gunes Stadium. The player has started the current campaign on a positive note as well, with two assists in five games for his side thus far.

A playmaker in the classic number 10 mould, Omur has been hailed for his impeccable vision and technique while also possessing a decent amount of pace. While he is yet to make his international debut for Turkey, the teenager does not seem to be a long way away from earning a maiden call-up.

His exploits for Trabzonspor have helped Omur attract interest from some of the biggest clubs in Europe as well. Among these, Arsenal and Atletico Madrid are the front-runners in his pursuit, with both clubs eager to add him to their youth setups.

The Gunners have been hot in pursuit of some talented youngsters in the transfer market, with the likes of Christopher Rocchia, Keinan Davis and Daniel Adshead being tailed by the club. Omur is the latest player being eyed by the North London club, with a view to adding him to their under-23 side.

However, with the future of Mesut Ozil under increased uncertainty, there’s a fair chance that Omur could be fast tracked into the first-team setup quickly. Arsenal’s interest in the player has also been confirmed by former Trabzonspor coach Sadi Tekelioglu.

“Arsenal want to sign Abdulkadir. I heard that Atletico Madrid are interested in him as well. But, Arsenal are ahead of them in the race to sign Omur. Arsene Wenger does a good job when it comes to discovering young players. Abdulkadir will be a success when he moves to Europe.”

However, while the Gunners seem to be leading the race to sign Omur, they face stiff competition from Atletico Madrid for the player. Los Rojiblancos do have a wealth of attacking options at the Wanda Metropolitano, but the youngster’s addition could bode well for their future, considering just how highly rated he is.

Omur, though, will need to make a choice between first-team game time and a return to youth football, and it remains to be seen if he chooses to further his footballing education by moving to either Arsenal or Atletico Madrid.
