Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool are reportedly targeting Inter Milan midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia, who is currently serving a loan spell at Valencia.
According to a report by Tribal Football, Geoffrey Kondogbia has attracted Premier League interest with Tottenham and Liverpool targetting the on-loan Inter Milan midfielder. Both clubs are in search of a quality defensive midfielder, making Kondogbia a prime target.
The Frenchman has been a part of the first-team setup at Inter Milan since the summer of 2015 when he moved from AS Monaco. Since then, the midfielder has had a mixed time in Italy, but he recently hit the headlines after scoring a shocking own goal against Chelsea during a friendly this past the summer.
Despite being only 24 years old, Kondogbia has already been a part of four different clubs, and could be on his way to the Premier League next. Spurs and Liverpool are both understood to be harbouring an interest but they will have to work fast if they are to land a deal.
The Frenchman is strong on the ball and has a very good passing range – both long and short – which could prove to be quite handy at Spurs. Moreover, his height works at an advantage for him since he enjoys great control over the ball. With Mousa Dembele not getting any younger Kondogbia becomes a viable target.
Furthermore, Tottenham have several months of excruciating commitments in the second half of the season, and that could be a time when his experience and talent could improve the squad considerably.
As far as Liverpool are concerned, their defence has been the talk of the town for all the wrong reasons. The central defensive partnership is in shambles and this only highlights as to why Klopp was so desperate to sign Virgil van Dijk from Southampton.
It is unsure as to whether or not he will do so in January, but signing Kondogbia might help to an extent. What separates Kondogbia from many other defensive midfielders is his ability to bring the ball forward, which is of course paired with his protective duties in the holding role.
However, considering the gravity of Liverpool’s requirement, one must bear in mind that Kondogbia is notorious for committing fouls while tackling. That might be dangerous for the Reds because if things work out, they will end up depending a lot on him.
Thus, his next destination could be either of the two clubse. Irrespective of where he goes though, Kondogbia is certainly capable of adding value.
