Manchester United are keeping a close eye on Kieran Tierney and reportedly sent a scout to monitor his performance in Celtic’s win over Dundee.
According to a report by The Sun, Manchester United are continuing to monitor Kieran Tierney and even sent a scout for Celtic’s game against Dundee. Tierney has been a United target for months now, and Jose Mourinho could consider signing the youngster in January.
Kieran Tierney has impressed top clubs across Europe with his scintillating performances for Celtic. In fact, he has been touted as one of the most promising young talents in Europe and United are believed to have sent scouts to take note of his performances on several occasions.
Considering his display against England back in July, as well as his showings for Celtic, the reports are likely to be positive. Tierney has enjoyed stunning progress in the last couple of seasons, winning the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Season award, while also making the PFA Scotland Team of the Year for 2015-16 and 2016-17.
This year he has been a constant on manager Brendan Rodgers’ team-sheet when fit, getting a starting role ahead of Celtic hero Emilio Izaguirre. However, it was his performance in the 3-3 Champions League draw with Manchester City that caught the eye.
Tierney was truly a force to be reckoned with as he fought hard and resisted a strong attack like that of Pep Guardiola’s front line. Now, United are preparing to make a move for him and it is extremely likely that Mourinho will see him as an immediate first-team player.
The left side of defence has been an issue for Mourinho, with Luke Shaw suffering from a number of injury problems. Although he made his comeback recently, after spending four months on the sidelines, Shaw is still some way off regaining his place as a regular in the first-team setup.
One might even say that he is running out of chances after having been publicly criticised by Mourinho last season. Meanwhile, the likes of Ashley Young, Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo and Matteo Darmian have all been deployed as left-backs in Shaw’s absence, but to little success.
Since there are significant question marks over Luke Shaw’s future at the club, Mourinho is open to the option of bringing in a long-term solution to his left-back position for which Tierney seems like a strong candidate. Thus, a summer move could be in the offing.
