Manchester City set to table bumper £12 million-a-year deal to Kevin De Bruyne

Manchester City are reportedly set to table a bumper double-your-salary contract offer in the coming weeks to Kevin De Bruyne

According to a report by the Daily Telegraph, Manchester City are set to open talks with Kevin De Bruyne over a new contract in the coming weeks. The renewal will see the Belgian midfielder secure his long-term future at Etihad and double his existing £6 million-a-year wages.

De Bruyne progressed through the ranks at Genk before making his first-team debut in 2008. After four fruitful seasons with the Belgian outfit, the player was snapped up by Chelsea. However, his spell at Stamford Bridge didn’t even last two seasons, and he joined Wolfsburg in the winter of 2014.

His time at Wolfsburg was highly fruitful, and De Bruyne was adjudged the best player in Bundesliga in only his first full season in the German top flight. He was subsequently snapped up by Manchester City in the summer of 2015 for a club record fee.

At Etihad, the player took no time to establish himself as a key figure, and is heavily involved in most of the Citizens’ attacking pursuits. In 95 competitive appearances for Manchester City, De Bruyne has bagged 23 goals and 35 assists, providing the most assists in the Premier League last season.

Under the tutelage of Pep Guardiola, the 26-year-old has made tremendous progress and is now widely regarded as one of the best playmakers in the world. The Spaniard, too, recently described De Bruyne as one of the best players he has ever seen in his life.

Seen as a key part of Guardiola’s first-team plans, Manchester City now intend to reward the player with a bumper new deal to secure his long-term future at Etihad while warding off potential suitors at the same time, despite nearly four years still remaining on his current deal at the club.

The report states that the Citizens view De Bruyne as “one of Europe’s most complete midfielders”. Additionally, with De Bruyne happy and settled at Etihad as well, he is expected to put pen to paper on a deal that will take his salary beyond the £200,000-per-week mark.

Preliminary talks have already taken place between City and De Bruyne’s entourage, and the report goes on to add that both sides are willing to conclude the deal quickly. Thus, t now remains to be seen when Manchester City make the announcement over a renewal, with the agreement on the new deal only being a matter of when than if.
