Juventus are reportedly weighing up the possibility of signing Andres Iniesta from Barcelona on a Bosman deal next summer.
According to a report in Italian publication Tuttosport, Juventus have set their sights on Andres Iniesta and considering a possible move for the Barcelona captain. The veteran Spanish midfielder’s contract at Camp Nou is set to expire in June 2018, and he can possibly make the switch to Turin on a free transfer.
Iniesta has been one of the biggest success stories of Barcelona’s fabled La Masia academy. Having broken into the first-team setup in 2002, the player has enjoyed one of the most storied careers of the 21st century.
One of the cornerstones for Barcelona and Spain over the last decade, Iniesta has amassed over 700 appearances for both club and country, while laying his hands on every trophy there is to win at either level.
However, uncertainty is starting to mount around the 33-year-old’s future at Barcelona, who has said, time and again, that he does not intend to hang up his boots anytime soon. Less than 12 months remain on his current deal at Camp Nou, with little to no progress on a renewal.

Iniesta has, therefore, been forced to admit that he is seriously considering his future at the Catalan club. His next destination could be Italy, with Juventus setting their sights on the veteran midfielder.
Massimiliano Allegri does not seem to have a crisis at his hands when it comes to his options at the centre of the park, with the likes of Miralem Pjanic, Claudio Marchisio, Sami Khedira and summer arrival Blaise Matuidi to choose from.
Additionally, a move for Emre Can is being widely reported as well. But, the Bianconeri are eyeing Iniesta as a short-term solution to assert better control in midfield, much like how Andrea Pirlo was for four years following his move from AC Milan.
While the player’s best years are clearly behind him, he has shown that he can still be a fantastic performer with his scintillating playmaking abilities, when used efficiently. Therefore, the move to sign Iniesta on a Bosman deal could be a coup of sorts for Juventus.
The Spaniard’s acquisition can also be beneficial for the progress of Pjanic, who is approaching his peak years. It now remains to be seen if Barcelona offer a renewal to Iniesta in the coming months, or if he departs from Camp Nou in search of a fresh challenge next summer.
