Transfer Rumour: Emre Can to sign pre-contract with Juventus in January

Emre Can will reportedly ink a pre-contract with Juventus in January after failing to secure a move this summer.

According to a report by The Sun, Emre Can will sign a pre-contract with Juventus in January after being linked with the Italian champions for a couple of months. In fact, the Bianconeri were supposed to complete the move on deadline day, but a bid was rejected by Liverpool.

It is now believed that the 23-year-old will ink a deal with Juventus in January, since he has less than a year left on his current contract with Liverpool. Thus, he will be free to negotiate with clubs outside of England at the turn of the year, which could see him move to Italy.

Liverpool signed Emre Can from Bayer Leverkusen back in the summer of 2014 in a £10 million deal. The 23-year-old German international recorded 40 appearances in all competitions for the Reds in the 2016/17 season, and Liverpool will hope the player decides to ink a new long-term deal at Anfield.

An injury to captain Jordan Henderson allowed Can to improve his over-all game by featuring prominently, and the German midfielder has established himself as a key member of the squad. However, Can did face his fair share of criticism from the fans for the initial part of the previous season due to his lacklustre performances.

All that changed once the player started performing better and he has now won fans over. Can especially blossomed in Henderson’s absence and took up the responsibility with grit and power supported by all-action performances.

As far as Juventus are concerned, their squad is perfectly balanced at the moment. But Massimiliano Allegri will be looking to add cover in the midfield come next season. Quite possibly, the German midfielder might have to take up a less important role at Juventus considering they already have players like Miralem Pjanic and Sami Khedira, although his compatriot’s injury woes could open up a regular spot.

At present, staying back with Liverpool can help him rake in valuable Champions League experience which can help later if he chooses to exit next summer. Going ahead with the move though might see him provide him lesser playing time – and that is something Can will have to reflect upon.
