Transfer News: Liverpool set to submit £55 million Thomas Lemar bid

Liverpool have reportedly enquired as to the availability of AS Monaco star Thomas Lemar and are ready to submit a £55 million bid for Arsenal target.

According to a Telegraph exclusive from Chief Football Correspondent Jason Burt, Liverpool may be about to heap more misery on Arsenal. The Reds have submitted an inquiry to AS Monaco for Thomas Lemar and are ready to stump up a whopping £55 million to land the Frenchman.

The news comes just days after Arsene Wenger admitted defeat in the pursuit of the winger, stating that AS Monaco had closed the door on the possibility of a move and is sure to anger the fans further after a dismal 4-0 defeat at Anfield at the hands of the very club that may be about to land Lemar.

Thomas Lemar has risen quickly to become one of the highest rated wingers in all of Europe, thanks to a sizzling 2016-17 campaign, where he ended with a total of 14 goals and 17 assists. The player has started the present season on a good note as well, with 2 assists to his name so far.

Lemar, though, has always been linked to Arsenal throughout the summer. Arsenal were even reported to have agreed personal terms with the player, with only the fee left to be sorted out with AS Monaco, who seemed to be intent on their asking price for the 21-year-old.

Arsenal have been looking to beef up their attack for quite a while, especially with question marks surrounding the future of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Alexis Sanchez, both of whom are looking to move to a club rival. However, the club’s hesitation in paying up for Lemar could now come back to haunt them.

Liverpool are fresh off securing their qualification into the Group Stage of the UEFA Champions League and a 4-0 dismantling of Arsenal on Sunday at Anfield. However, if that humiliation wasn’t enough, they could now put more pressure on Wenger by landing one of their priority targets.

Liverpool are reportedly looking to add Lemar to the squad but not as a potential replacement for Coutinho. It is touted that Klopp might be tempted to either field Lemar in the midfield or shift to a 4-2-4 or a 4-2-3-1 with either Mane or Firmino as a central striker and Lemar alongside Salah and others.

The Reds already have one of the best attacks at the present moment and with the addition of Lemar could make them one of the favourites for the title. AS Monaco have always maintained that they would only sell Lemar for their asking price and with Liverpool ready to pay up, we could see Lemar arrive at Anfield.

Liverpool will provide Champions League football, unlike Arsenal, and given the current turmoil Arsenal find themselves in, Lemar would likely to prefer a move to a more stable club in the form of Liverpool.
