Arsenal and Tottenham are reportedly set to rival Manchester City in the pursuit of highly-rated Turkish wonderkid Oguz Kagan, currently a part of Fenerbahce

According to The Sun, another Turkish wonderkid has entered the radar of top Premier League clubs. Fenerbahce wonder boy Oguz Kagan has emerged on the shortlist of Arsenal and Tottenham, who are both set to rival Manchester City in the pursuit of the promising midfielder.

Oguz Kagan has been at Fenerbahce throughout his footballing journey and has progressed rapidly through the various youth levels at the Super Lig side to finally become a part of the first-team setup at the club, who have promised the 18-year-old first-team football this season.

And the talented midfielder has attracted the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester City, who have all scouted the player out several times. However, according to club president Aziz Yildrim, Manchester City have taken the first step forward, lodging a £4.5 million bid for the 18-year-old.

Yildrim, though, insisted that the offer was rejected and that only a much-improved offer could see the whizkid depart Fenerbahce, while assuring that the player is set to be a regular fixture in the first-team at the club, should he end up staying.

“Manchester City have made a €5m (£4.5m) offer for him. We turned down the offer. We gave assurances that he will play this season, do not be surprised to see him in the starting XI as a number eight.”

The last sentence does come as a surprise as the player has been labelled as a defensive midfielder. But, Kagan has already shown his versatility by plying his trade successfully at left-back and in central defence as well.

Hence, the player could be made to adapt to his potentially new role as a number eight. The left-footed youngster has just signed a new deal with Fenerbahce, one which is set to run till 2020. And, given the nature of interest he has been able to generate in his services, the Turkish giants could be set for a windfall, be it now or in the near future.

It will also be interesting to see if Manchester City return with an improved offer and whether Arsenal and Tottenham rival the Citizens by lodging in bids of their own. For now, though, Kagan looks like a youngster that is revered at Fenerbahce and could be set to take the Super Lig by storm.
