Transfer News: Liverpool and Arsenal set to battle for Luan

Liverpool and Arsenal are reportedly both set to battle each other for Gremio superstar Luan, whose move to Spartak Moscow has collapsed.

According to Brazilian outlet ZH, Liverpool are not satisfied with the addition of Dominic Solanke in their attacking roster and are looking to intensify their pursuit of one of their long-term targets. The Reds have sent scouts to watch Gremio striker Luan in action. But, they will have to contend with Arsenal for the Brazilian forward.

Luan has been dubbed the ‘new Ronaldinho’ by many. But, unlike his fellow countryman, the player is yet to move to Europe and hone his skills against the best of clubs in world football. The player was linked to Barcelona last summer, but a move failed to materialise as the Catalan outfit signed Paco Alcacer instead.

The 24-year-old has entered the radar of European outfits again, though, with an incredible showing thus far this season for Gremio – the striker has a tally of 11 goals and 5 assists in 22 matches – statistically and otherwise. A big-money move to Spartak Moscow was reportedly on the cards.

However, as per the latest reports, the move has stalled and is on the brink of collapsing. The news, though, could turn out to be a boon for the player, with Arsenal and Liverpool set to fight it out for the 24-year-old.

Liverpool have recently signed Dominic Solanke – a young exciting prospect – from Chelsea and already have the likes of Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi while the injured Danny Ings is also a part of the roster. However, Jurgen Klopp needs a reliable striker upfront to lead the Reds’ attack.

Arsenal, though, have signed Alexandre Lacazette this summer and are not in real crisis as far options upfront go. However, the club might face rotation troubles with their participation in the UEFA Europa League and the addition of Luan could prove to be useful for both domestic and European competitions.

The player, too, could get attracted by the allure of the illustrious Premier League and a chance to be a part of iconic clubs like Liverpool or Arsenal. It might finally be time for Luan to move to Europe and the Premier League could just become the striker’s newest hunting ground.
