Transfer News: AS Monaco slap staggering €180 million price tag on Kylian Mbappe

French champions AS Monaco have valued highly sought-after Real Madrid target Kylian Mbappe at €180 million

According to a tweet by Team, AS Monaco have placed a massive €180 million price tag on Kylian Mbappe, who has been a Real Madrid target for months now.

The previous season saw the 18-year-old Kylian Mbappe turn into a highly sought-after property owing to his stellar performances for Monaco as they went on to win the Ligue 1 title. It was arguably in the Champions League, though, that clubs outside France started taking note of the talented forward and, since then, suitors have been vying for his signature.

Mbappe has an incredible record to his name in the recently concluded campaign, which was interestingly only his second season of senior football. He made 44 appearances across all competitions for Monaco last season, while recording 26 goals and 14 assists. These are astounding numbers for a player who is still in his teens.

Although he has been strongly linked with moves to Arsenal and Manchester City in the Premier League, Spanish champions Real Madrid are believed to be leading the race to sign the teenage prodigy.

Real, however, will need to step up their pursuit of the youngster and fork out a whopping sum of €180 million, if they are to secure a deal for Mbappe. The departure of Alvaro Morata has opened a spot up-front which Mbappe can ideally slot in to.

Without Morata, Real boss Zinedine Zidane is left with Karim Benzema as his only recognised option up front, while an inexperienced Borja Mayoral can act as a back-up. Benzema endured an underwhelming campaign this past season and hence, signing a player like Mbappe can greatly benefit the Spanish club.

Mbappe’s pace coupled with his creativity and trickery up front can add value to Zidane’s attack force, thus making the teenager a viable target. Additionally, since he is only 18, Mbappe can be a long-term signing, while also having the potential to blossom further under Zidane.

Earlier, some reports did suggest that Real Madrid are on the verge of inking a deal with Mbappe but it remains to be seen how things proceed with a price tag as escalated as €180 million. Should the deal goes through, it will shatter the world record transfer fee paid by Manchester United for Paul Pogba last season.
