Transfer Rumour: Tottenham hope to clinch deal for Juan Foyth; Spurs keen on Ljubomir Fejsa

Tottenham Hotspur reportedly remain hopeful of signing Juan Foyth despite being outbid by Paris Saint-Germain for the Estudiantes defender

According to a report by The Sun, Tottenham are still keen on landing a deal for Juan Foyth despite being unable to match PSG’s bid for the defender.

Foyth made his way up the ranks at Estudiantes, following which he made his senior debut at the Argentine club earlier this year. The teenager has improved leaps and bounds with his boyhood club, and is touted as one of the most promising young talents in Argentina right now.

A player with limitless potential, Foyth has also made a name for himself with his calm demeanour on field as well as his mature reading of the game. His abilities on the ball have also caught the eye of several clubs – PSG and Tottenham being the most interested parties.

Foyth is understood to be seeking an exit from Estudiantes this summer, and a move to North London will benefit him since that would allow him to work with Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino, who is also from Argentina. The teenager will also have a better chance at playing regular first team football with Spurs than he would with PSG.

Pochettino has been interested in the youngster for a while now, and is eyeing him as a back-up to Kieran Trippier. The youngster can provide competition for Trippier after Kyle Walker’s record-breaking £50 million move to Manchester City.

Meanwhile, PSG are also in the market for a centre-back since Unai Emery is eager to strengthen his central defensive options this summer. They are believed to be ahead in the race because they have already submitted a bid close to the club’s asking price, but it remains to be seen if the Spurs can sneak a move to secure a deal for Foyth.

Tottenham are reportedly chasing a deal for Benfica midfielder Ljubomir Fejsa as manager Mauricio Pochettino eyes his first major signing of the summer

According to a report by The Sun, Pochettino is keen to make his first major signing of the transfer window so far, and is eyeing Benfica midfielder Ljubomir Fejsa.

The Serbian is often touted as European football’s Mr Success since he has collected ten championship medals over the last nine seasons with Partizan Belgrade, Olympiacos and his current Portuguese club.

Although Tottenham came close to winning the Premier League trophy twice over the last two seasons, they seem to be lacking something. Pochettino will hope Fejsa’s luck rubs off on them if they manage to land a deal for the talented midfielder.

A naturally defensive midfielder, Fejsa made 32 appearances – and managed to score once – as Benfica comfortably set out to win yet another Primera Liga title. He will be out of contract next summer, thus allowing a window of opportunity for the Spurs. They have failed to make any major signings so far but Fejsa could be the lucky one.

However, Fejsa might have to kiss his chances of regular football goodbye if he does join the Spurs. The north London club do not have an open spot for Fejsa since Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama are already key players. Having said that, the Serbian midfielder can provide depth to the squad and allow Pochettino to rotate the squad with ease.

Time is running out for the Argentine manager and he will be keen to make a new major signing before the window ends, and as things stand now, Fejsa could become the first.
